Dave Chisnall won both of his matches in Sheffield to narrow the gap at the top of the Premier League table.
World number one Michael van Gerwen continues to lead the group, maintaining his unbeaten record with a 7-5 win over Stephen Bunting.
But St Helens-born Chisnall, 34, is just a point behind the Dutchman after beating world champion Gary Anderson 7-3 and then James Wade 7-1.
Defending champion Raymond van Barneveld defeated Phil Taylor 7-2.
Taylor, the 16-times world champion, is fourth in the table and holds the final play-off spot, but is in a three-way tie on nine points with Wade and Adrian Lewis.
Kim Huybrechts and Peter Wright were eliminated after nine rounds, and the remaining eight players are competing for four play-off spots, with the final being held in London on 21 May.
