Nathan Stephens breaks javelin world record
World champion Nathan Stephens broke the F57 javelin world record with a throw of 41.37 metres to win the Czech Athletics Open in Olomouc.
The Welshman exceeded 40 metres for the first time just three weeks after recording his previous best of 39.80m.
The 23-year-old, who won the IPC Athletics World Championships crown in New Zealand in January, is targeting gold at the 2012 Paralympics in London.
"Obviously we targeted the world title in New Zealand," said Stephens.
"But we wanted to peak at this time too. This is when I need to peak for the Paralympic Games in London next year and we wanted to replicate that process so we altered my training."
The Bridgend athlete finished fourth in the javelin in his first Paralympics at the 2008 Beijing Games as well as finishing eighth in the shot put and 11th in the discus.
