Hull goalball player targets place at London 2012

A goalball player from Hull is aiming to secure a place in the Great Britain team for the London 2012 Paralympics.

Chris Oakley was invited to join the national squad after impressing selectors in club competition.

Chris, 28, told BBC Look North: "If you want your place you've got to earn it - there are no free tracksuits and no free tickets."

The GB squad recently played in an eight team tournament in Lithuania in the build up to the Paralympics.

Chris, who has been partially sighted since birth, admitted that he was surprised to earn international recognition so close to the games.

He said: "The GB coach came and had a chat and said would I be interested in training with the Great Britain squad and I said 'Yes, absolutely' and a month later I was playing in Finland."

Selection for the final squad for London is expected to take place early next year.
