Equestrian rider Laura Collett has returned to the saddle at a special charity event.

Collett spent six days in a coma after a fall in July, but was cleared to ride at the Bicton Arena in a challenge in aid of the Injured Jockeys' Fund.

The 23-year-old recuperated at Oaksey House, a venue funded by the charity.

"Finally home after a long day... Not exactly the quiet, gentle first day back but it was a good one," wrote Collett on Twitter.external-link

Collett suffered spine, shoulder and rib fractures and crush injuries to her lungs and liver after falling from Tis A Beauty on 8 July.

The challenge involved two teams of four riders from the worlds of horse racing, eventing and show jumping, and saw competitors jump a course in the main arena, which included a chase fence and a narrow cross country-style fence.

As well as Collett, jockey Jeremy McGrath and event riders including Althea Bleekman and Aaron Miller also took part.
