Zara Phillips was unable to make her debut in the Rolex Kentucky three-day event after her ride High Kingdom suffered an injury.

Phillips, 33, withdrew from the dressage test after the London 2012 silver medal-winning horse kicked out and suffered a cut leg.

William Fox-Pitt leads the British pursuit of a second successive Kentucky crown on Bay My Hero.

Fox-Pitt is in third place heading into Saturday's cross-country phase.

Germany's Michael Jung and New Zealand's Tim Price are joint leaders.

The Kentucky competition, which ends on Sunday, is one of six global four-star events along with Badminton, Burghley, Luhmuhlen, Pau and Adelaide.

Great Britain eventing team boss Yogi Breisner hopes High Kingdom will recover to compete at Badminton on 7 May.

He said: "He is still entered at Badminton, so we will see how he is when he gets back to the UK."
