Cambridge United have signed Northampton striker Courtney Herbert on loan until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old scored two in his first four games for Northampton but has failed to net in his last 38 outings - going back to October 2009.

He arrived at Sixfields from non-league side Long Buckby 18 months ago.

"Courtney will give us something different up front with his electric pace," U's caretaker boss Jez George told the club website.

"He has had limited opportunities at Northampton but will add to our attacking options for the last seven games of the season."

Cobblers boss Gary Johnson, a former Cambridge manager, added: "Courtney is still learning the game.

"He has been training hard, but he needs games. He had the opportunity to go to a couple of clubs and he has chosen Cambridge.

"We will keep a regular eye on him and his progression, but this move will give him the chance to play regular football which is what he needs."

Herbert will be available for Saturday's visit of Forest Green.
