Ian Craney's double helped Accrington move within a point of the play-offs with an easy home win over Northampton.
Craney pounced on a rebound to grab the opening goal and then deflected Jimmy Ryan's shot into the net.
Sean McConville sealed a seventh straight home win for Stanley when he volleyed in Andy Procter's flick-on.
Northampton pulled a goal back with Michael Jacobs' free-kick but 13 league games without a win leaves them just four points clear of the drop zone.
Northampton boss Gary Johnson told BBC Radio Northampton:"On the day the lads didn't quite step up to the plate. They (Accrington) were much more clinical in the penalty area.
"The lads have got to learn very quickly from what they are not quite doing.
"I thought a few were a little bit shrinking violets today and they have got a couple of cup finals coming up."
