Gateshead midfielder Kris Gate will miss the rest of the season after he cracked two ribs in the game against Grimsby on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old has been a regular in the Tynesiders first-team, making 35 league appearances, as well as helping the club to the FA Trophy semi-finals.

"I missed most of the last two months of last season with a torn muscle in my side," Gate told the club websiteexternal-link.

"To miss the last nine games of the season is very disappointing."

He added: "I hate having to watch games from the sidelines, but I have just got to get on with it."

Andy Ferrell's return from a loan spell at Barrow bolsters Ian Bogie's ranks in the midfield areas, while Ashley Winn is likely to deputise.

Gate joined the Tynesiders following his release by Newcastle United in September 2007.
