Derby County boss Nigel Clough says the decision to sign Brad Jones rather than recall Stephen Bywater was the best solution to their goalkeeping crisis.
Jones was signed on loan from Liverpool after Matt Duke's recall by Hull.
And Clough said it made sense not to bring back Bywater from Cardiff as it means they can still recall him if Jones is also injured.
"If something happens to Brad in the last eight games, we can still recall Stephen," Clough told BBC Radio Derby.
"Stephen wants to stay at Cardiff. He was keen to go there. We still have that as an option as well and it's important we do have it.
"If we had recalled Stephen and something happened to him then we would have been left with Ross Atkins and James Severn.
"And the extenuating circumstances may not have covered us because they are both young, professional goalkeepers."
