Nicky Ajose scored twice as high-flying Bury thrashed strugglers Northampton.
Ryan Lowe pounced on a rebound to open the scoring for the Shakers before Ajose picked up David Worrall's long clearance to double their advantage.
Damien Mozika forced a third past Steve Collis with a deflected effort before Ajose raced clear to slot in his second of the afternoon.
Shaun Harrad beat the offside trap to pull one back for the home side before lobbing Cameron Belford for his second.
Gary Johnson told BBC Radio Northampton:
"We were disappointed on the line to see that first half performance. It was really poor it was embarrassing.
"It's a team that is struggling at the minute.
"I understand everybody's frustrations; we've just got to keep going.
"I could walk out of the door tomorrow but I don't think that would help although some people would like me to do that listening to a few people."
Bury caretaker manager Richie Barker told BBC Radio Manchester:"It's been a very good and fruitful seven days for the players and we're on course to where we want to be.
"It was very difficult to pick anyone out but if I was going to, it would have to be four; the two front boys [Nicky Ajose and Ryan Lowe], Damien Mozika and Peter Sweeney.
"The club has had bad luck in the play-offs so I was told from the start to try and avoid them."
