Plymouth kept their slim hopes of League One survival alive at the expense of fellow strugglers Walsall.
Rory Fallon hit the bar and Saddlers keeper Jimmy Walker made superb saves from Carl Fletcher and Joe Mason.
Yannick Bolasie swept the hosts in front when he got on the end of Fallon's header back across goal.
Matt Richards saw his free-kick brilliantly saved by Pilgrims keeper David Button before sub Rory Patterson broke away to make the points safe.
Plymouth Argyle manager Peter Reid told BBC Radio Devon:
"We performed really well, we passed it about, we made chances and I was a bit disappointed at coming in 0-0 at half-time.
"The key today was the three midfield players who passed it really well, but it was a great team performance.
"There was a lot of good performances out there today and it was really pleasing that we got a victory, both for the players and the supporters."
