Colchester United boss John Ward says he is eager to hold contract talks with striker Steven Gillespie.
The 23-year-old, who is set to be a free agent in the summer, revealed last week that the club had yet to approach him over a new deal.
"It will happen as soon we can sit down and talk to him," Ward told BBC Essex.
"Robbie Cowling [chairman] will be back in midweek and I've already spoken to him about it being something I want to look at as quickly as we can."
He added: "As soon as I get a chance to talk to Robbie we'll get a chance to talk to Steven and we'll see if we can put the whole thing together."
Gillespie netted his eighth goal of the campaign in Saturday's 2-1 loss to Sheffield Wednesday.
The former Cheltenham man has been restricted to 18 games this season after spending almost six months out through injury.
