Aston Villa have opened contract talks with veteran goalkeeper Brad Friedel.
The American's current deal runs out this summer but Villa are keen to retain the services of the 39-year-old whose recent form has been excellent.
"We are in talks over a new contract. Brad is very happy at Villa," said Friedel's agent, Tony McGill.
Friedel signed for Villa in 2008 for £2m from Blackburn Rovers, who he had joined in November 2000 from Liverpool.
Villa manager Gerard Houllier had previously indicated he would talk to Friedel about a new deal before the season ended.
Friedel last week dismissed claims of a player mutiny at Villa following recent poor results
"If Brad was not happy, he would not be talking over a new contract," added McGill.
"I have spoken with [Villa] chief executive Paul Faulkner and talks are going very well indeed."
Villa's other first-team keeper Andy Marshall, 35, recently signed a 12-month contract.
