Tommy Miller scored against his former club Hartlepool to help Sheffield Wednesday to a comfortable win.
Miller put the Owls ahead from the penalty spot after Sam Collins had fouled Neil Mellor in the area.
Good work from Jermaine Johnson allowed Gary Madine to fire in from the edge of the area and double the lead.
Pools rarely threatened, and Mellor nearly added a third for the home side but was denied by a fine save from Scott Flinders.
Sheffield Wednesday boss Gary Megson told BBC Radio Sheffield:
"The games are never comfortable, but in terms of the scoreline and efforts on goal and all of that stuff I think it was probably as comfortable as we've had.
"It only looked comfortable because of the workrate and the honesty of the players and at times some really good quality.
"We should have won it by more than we did, they've not had a shot on target and obviously a clean sheet's pleasing, scoring two goals, against a team that set out 4-5-1 really made it difficult for us."
