Oxford United midfielder Paul McLaren is set to sign a new deal to keep him at the club next season.

McLaren is expected to complete the deal next week following Saturday's match at Accrington.

The 34-year-old has scored one goal in 19 games since he joined in December following his release by Tranmere.

McLaren told the club website: "Oxford are a big club and should be playing at least one league higher and hopefully I can help achieve that for the team."

The ex-Luton midfielder added: "It's great to get this sorted out so early and I'm already looking forward to next season."

Oxford boss Chris Wilder said: "I'm very pleased that Paul has agreed to remain with the club. His presence has helped steady the ship and has allowed the players around him to develop and mature.

"For Macca to sign now gives us something to build on for next season, which is sure to be an exciting one."
