Andy Holt gets Northampton Town coaching role
Northampton Town boss Gary Johnson has appointed defender Andy Holt as his player-coach.
Holt, 33 next week, joined the club in the summer of 2006 and has amassed 206 appearances, scoring 17 goals.
Johnson told the club website: "This is my appointment to introduce Andy into the coaching side.
"I still see him very much as a player but I think he can be the buffer between me and the players in the dressing room."
Holt added: "It came a bit out of the blue but I'm really delighted to have this opportunity.
"Gary spoke to me on Wednesday and we had a good chat. I want to help the club in any way I can and this is the next step for me.
"I have just got my level two coaching badge and I am doing my level three in the summer.
"Coaching is something I have always considered but my priority is as a player. I want to go on playing for as long as possible and I still think I have got a good few years left in me."
Holt started his career at Oldham and has had spells with Hull, Barnsley, Shrewsbury and Wrexham.
