Rochdale's play-off hopes were dealt a blow as they threw away a one-goal lead against mid-table Carlisle.
Carlisle went ahead when Craig Curran's header hit a post and bounced off Marcus Holness and into his own net.
But Joe Thompson nodded home from Nicky Adams' free-kick, before Matt Done's side-footed finish, after a fine Thompson flick, put Rochdale in front.
Liam Noble's stunning effort from 30 yards made it 2-2 and Matty's Robson's long-range free-kick sealed the win.
Rochdale manager Keith Hill told BBC Radio Manchester:
"When you consider the form we're in, I think the team that is going to challenge Bournemouth is probably Exeter.
"Today was our golden opportunity especially when we winning 2-1 and I feel we've thrown away an opportunity.
"We felt victim of two unusual mistakes for our team and that has cost us from a winning situation."
