Stockport 2-2 Northampton

Highlights - Stockport 2-2 Northampton

Stockport are all-but relegated from the Football League after a draw with Northampton, who could join them in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

Guillem Bauza put the visitors ahead from close range, before Paul Rodgers knocked a cross into his own net.

Shaun Harrad hit the post for the Cobblers, before scoring from the penalty spot after Andy Halls had tripped Bauza in the area.

Greg Tansey fired in a magnificent effort from 35 yards to equalise.

Stockport remain six points off safety with an inferior goal difference than sides around them.

Barring a landslide of goals and results going for them in the final two games, they will drop out of the Football League for the first time in their 106-year history.

Northampton, who are now 18 games without a win, are a point clear of the relegation zone with two games left to play.

Stockport County manager Ray Mathias told BBC Radio Manchester:

"Just absolutely gutted for all of the fans here as if we'd had on won the game 5-2 it wouldn't have been an injustice.

"I'm not sure what's happening with the club, I just worry about the football side so we'll just wait and see on that.

"My situation is I've got a letter which finishes on the 7th of May and we'll see what happens then."

Northampton Town manager Gary Johnson tells BBC Radio Northampton:

"Stockport knew they had to get a win so I was really pleased when we went one up. They came back into it as we lost our game a bit. I thought our back four played well but we didn't dictate the midfield enough.

"Really, Stockport should have been down to 10 men. Then Tansey hits a 30 yard screamer in the top corner.

"We live to fight another day and it's going to go to the wire."
