Derby County defender Shaun Barker is targeting next season after successful surgery on a long-standing knee injury.
Barker had the operation on Thursday and said it went well, but admitted the problem was worse than first feared.
"It was not too bad," Barker told BBC Radio Derby. "But maybe it was slightly worse than we were expecting.
"Hopefully the recovery won't be too long. I'm hoping I can get my problems behind me for next season and perform my best for Derby County again."
He added: "We have a little bit of time with me missing the last couple of games and the off season as well."
Barker has been struggling with the injury for most of the season but had delayed surgery until the Rams were safe from relegation from the Championship.
