SPL announces award winners for season 2010/11

Celtic full-back Emilio Izaguirre and Dundee United striker David Goodwillie have gathered more awards for their performances this season.

The Honduran defender has been named the Clydesdale Bank Premier League player of the year, while Goodwillie, 22, is the league's top young player.

On Sunday they also received the PFA Scotland awards in those categories.

Former Kilmarnock boss Mixu Paatelainen, now leading the Finland team, was manager of the season.

The judging panel described the attack-minded 24-year-old Celtic left-back as a "class act".

And Goodwillie, with 16 goals for United this season, has now won the young player's award two years running.

Paatelainen's record at Kilmarnock caught the eye of the Finnish FA, who recognised that, with a limited squad on his arrival at Rugby Park, he had the Ayrshire side playing attractive football that propelled them into the top half of the table.

Goal of the season went to Hibernian's Derek Riordan for his chip over Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster at Celtic Park on 25 September 2010.

Neil Doncaster, chief executive of the SPL, said: "The Clydesdale Bank Premier League Awards celebrate the very best of Scottish football in what has been another dramatic season.

"As well as honouring excellent performances on the pitch this season, the awards also recognise the hard work of clubs off the pitch."
