Leeds United striker Luciano Becchio is set to undergo surgery on a hamstring injury at the end of the season.
The 27-year-old Argentine last featured in the 2-2 draw with Watford at Elland Road on 16 April.
Leeds manager Simon Grayson told the club's website: "If we made the play-offs we can delay it and it could be that he would play.
"But otherwise he will have the operation and he will be back for pre-season," he added.
Becchio has scored 20 goals in 44 appearances for the Championship club this season.
Leeds need to win on the final day, hope Nottingham Forest lose and make up a six-goal swing in goal difference to finish in the top six.
United travel to Loftus Road on Saturday to face QPR, while Forest take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Leeds had occupied a play-off place for much of the season but they have slipped out of the top six after winning only two of their last nine games.
