'Poor' Aberdeen frustrate manager Craig Brown

Craig Brown bemoaned an "unacceptable" display from his Aberdeen side after the 2-0 home loss to St Johnstone.

"We've just been talking to the players there and explaining to them that that's totally unacceptable to be as poor," said the Dons manager.

"It was a very poor and disappointing display and but for good goalkeeping it could've been more (for St Johnstone).

"The blunt truth is that St Johnstone were the better team and deserved to win the game."

And the Pittodrie manager added: "All the credit is due to St Johnstone, they came with the correct attitude. They had the energy, they had the enthusiasm and it's quite unaccountable, the lack of zip that we had."

Fraser Fyvie made his return from long-term injury for Aberdeen and, though Brown was heartened to bring the midfielder off the bench with two other youngsters, he feels the squad as a whole have to offer more.

"The one bright spark was that Fyvie got part of the game," added Brown. "The young boys came on - Nicky Low, Clark Robertson, Fyvie - and they are the future of Aberdeen but they're not the present of Aberdeen.

"We need to be much better in terms of our current squad so hopefully that'll happen next season.

"We have (targets in mind) but it's much easier said than done. We have budget constraints and also we've got to identify the players that are going to improve our squad."
