Oxford United have learnt a lot - Kelvin Thomas

Thomas says he will not rush into signing new players for next season

Oxford United chairman Kelvin Thomas believes the experience gained in League Two this season holds the U's in good stead for next year.

Oxford finished 12th having won promotion to the Football League last May after a four-year absence.

"There's a tinge of disappointment because we finished five points off the play-offs," Thomas told BBC Oxford.

"But we did well. We had a go and learnt a lot and I think we're now prepared for next year," he said.

U's boss Chris Wilder recently stated that he wants to sign new players in the summer and earlier this week he announced changes to the U's squad ahead of next season.

But Thomas insists the club will not rush into any new deals.

"There maybe one or two signings pretty soon but after that we're not going to rush into any deals," he said.

"It's an important year for us next year so we want to make sure we get it right.

"We have been planning for a little bit now, we know we've not been in the play-offs for a few weeks so we've really started to ramp up our plans for next season."
