Torquay United defender Guy Branston is determined to stay at Plainmoor regardless of the outcome of the club's play-off campaign.

After signing a one-year deal last summer, Branston has been a key figure in the Gulls' promotion push.

Branston, 32, told BBC Devon: "I'd be very honoured to sign another contract with them, I like it here.

"I'm very goal driven, I've got to constantly keep myself at it and prove to people that I can play higher."

The former Burton defender added: "I'm hoping to be here next year. I like the area and I like the people so it's about them coming to me because I think I've done enough for them to offer me a contract.

"If they offer me something that's nowhere near what I'm thinking then you've got to turn around and go somewhere else. That's the harsh reality.

"The last thing I ever want is to be out of the game of football, I've worked so hard to be in it, so why would I want to be out of it?"

Torquay host Shrewsbury in the first leg of the play-off semi-finals on Saturday, with the return leg scheduled for 20 May.
