Burnley have announced that striker Steven Thompson and midfielder Kevin McDonald are to leave the club.

The duo will be released when their contracts expire in June.

Scotland international Thompson, 32, has started just twice this season and McDonald, 22, has been on loan at Notts County since February.

Manager Eddie Howe said: "We thank both players for their efforts during their time at Turf Moor and wish them all the best in their future careers."

Dutch midfielder Remco Van Der Schaaf, 32, who has been on loan at Danish side Brondby IF since January 2010, will also be leaving Turf Moor.

Meanwhile, midfielder Wade Elliott, 32, has agreed a new two-year deal keeping him at the club until June 2013.
