Darlington have released striker Chris Senior from their squad, less than a week after his FA Trophy final winner against Mansfield Town.
The 29-year-old scored in the final moments of the 1-0 win, his fifth goal in 34 appearances for the Quakers.
"It's been a frustrating season for him," boss Mark Cooper told BBC Tees.
"We only have a certain amount of money, and that money we spend on strikers has to fire us into the Football League."
"I would have liked that to have come out in an official way, but I think Chris has posted it on a social media site," Cooper added.
"There can't be any sentiment.
"If I didn't do it, I wouldn't be doing my job properly,"
"I've been a player myself and I've been told I wasn't needed and it's horrible.
"But hopefully with the season we've had and with Saturday gone, I'd like to think any players that leave us would get fixed up, and I'd give any of them a fantastic reference."
Senior joined the Quakers from Altrincham on a free transfer a year ago.
