Cameroon's Coton Sport lost 2-0 in Algeria to Entente Setif on Friday but still qualified for the group stages of the African Champions League.
The 2008 runners-up ended the game with 10 men but went through to Sunday's draw for the mini-league phase of the tournament 4-3 on aggregate.
Bouazza Feham scored the opening goal from the penalty spot after 17 minutes.
Setif gave themselves a chance of a surprise comeback when Hocine Metref headed home 10 minutes after half-time.
Coton Sport then had to finish game with 10 men after Emmanuel Mbongo was sent off.
Setif will now go into Sunday's draw for the final knockout round of the Confederation Cup.
The third round tie had been postponed because Coton Sport had several players involved in the recent African Youth Championship in South Africa.
