Striker Darren Edwards pens new Gloucester City deal

Gloucester City striker Darren Edwards has signed a new one-year contract at the Blue Square Bet North side.

The 30-year-old, who joined from Bath last season, scored 15 goals this term to finish as the Tigers' top scorer.

"His goals were the catalyst for our improvement last season and it's good that we have him tied down for another year," said boss Dave Mehew.

Edwards joins Steve Davies, Will Morford and Lewis Pountney in agreeing terms at the club.

Mehew added: "What also pleases me is the versatility of the other strikers that we've got as it gives me a few options as to who partners Darren.

"Steve Davies has proved he can score for us and in the league above and he is chomping at the bit.

"We were his first port of call after he was released by Forest Green, which is good for us as a club.

"Lewis was on the phone two days after the season had ended. He is looking forward to pre-season and is already doing some work to prepare for it.

"That is the sort of player we want at Gloucester City. I think he could be a real jewel in our crown.

"I have a good mix, it's about freshening things up and I can do that with the versatility."
