Colchester United have signed defender Tom Eastman on a free transfer from Ipswich Town.

He has agreed a two-year deal with the U's after rejecting a six-month contract to remain at Portman Road.

The 19-year-old made 12 appearances this term, all in the first half of the season, but failed to make an appearance under new boss Paul Jewell.

"He has come to us to kick his career on," U's boss John Ward told the club websiteexternal-link.

"This is a move that fits in nicely for him and us."

The Colchester-born centre-half made his first-team debut on the last day of the 2009/10 campaign, when he was sent off in a 2-0 defeat by Sheffield United.
