Veteran Bournemouth striker Steve Fletcher says he has the backing of chairman Eddie Mitchell to continue playing next season.

Fletcher, 38, who is also Cherries' assistant boss, scored seven goals in 41 games this term.

"I spoke to the chairman and he's happy for me to stay, so I'll be one of the strikers at the club next season," he told BBC Radio Solent.

"While I still believe I can make a difference I will keep playing."

Fletcher continued: "Nothing has changed in me over the last few years, I've been more of an impact player this season coming off the bench but I've been important to the squad. I've come on and changed games."

He first joined the Cherries in 1992 but left the club in 2007 after a 15-year spell, before returning in January 2009 to help rescue them from League Two relegation.
