Eamon Zayed fired four past Galway in Derry's comfortable win

Eamon Zayed bagged four goals as Derry hammered Galway in Monday night's Airtricity Premier Division game to remain in third spot.

Patrick McEleney gave the Candystripes a seventh minute lead against the basement club before James McClean made it 2-0 after 23 minutes.

Zayed opened his account a minute before the break before adding Derry's fourth on 73 minutes.

The striker slotted in a penalty and completed the rout in the last minute.

League leaders Shamrock Rovers beat Bohemians 1-0 to stay three points clear of Derry and two ahead of second-placed Sligo Rovers, who won 1-0 against Dundalk.

In Monday night's other two games St Pat's Athletic won 3-1 at UCD while Drogheda United were defeated 1-0 at home by Bray Wanderers.
