Bury Town have completed the double signing of utility man John Kennedy and midfielder Stephen Smith.

Kennedy, 32, started his career at Ipswich, where he totalled eight appearances, but made his name in the non-league for Crawley and Histon.

Former Cambridge United man Smith, 24, has most recently featured for Cambridge City and Biggleswade.

"We tried to sign John at the start of last season," said Bury director of football Trevor Collins.

"But when we heard he was available this time round, we wasted little time in meeting with him and securing his signature as his experience will be hugely beneficial for the Blues next season.

"We are delighted to have secured the services of these two players and will continue to attempt to add more quality to the squad in time for when pre-season training begins in June."

They join midfielder Danny Cunningham in arriving at Ram Meadow, after his return to the Blues from Leiston.

Fellow midfielder Craig Nurse has committed for a further season but Nick Pope and Scott Chaplin have left the club.

Pope has been taken on by League One side Charlton while Chaplin is keen to find regular first team football.
