St Johnstone have signed their sixth new player of the summer with the former Falkirk striker Carl Finnigan agreeing a one-year deal.

He had been training with the team and manager Derek McInnes moved on Friday to secure the player's signature.

Finnigan, 24, joins David Robertson, David McCracken, Frazer Wright, Callum Davidson and Sean Higgins in Perth.

McInnes said: "Our lack of goals last season was a problem and hopefully Carl can help us in that respect."

Finnigan moved from Newcastle, where he failed to break into the first team, to Falkirk in 2007, where he scored 25 goals in 113 Scottish Premier League and Scottish First Division matches.

And the McDiarmid Park boss added: "Goals will have to come from all over the team but I am confident Carl can weigh in with a few.

"He has SPL experience, which is a help, and we are looking forward to helping develop his career."
