Iceland international defender Kari Arnason has joined Hearts at their Italian training camp in Tuscany.
Hearts manager Jim Jefferies is running the rule over the centre-back, who is a free agent after leaving Plymouth Argyle in the summer.
"Eggert Jonsson knows him and he comes well recommended by the likes of John Blackley," said Jefferies.
"We'll have a close look at him over the next seven days. He is a free agent so it's worth having a look."
Arnason began his career with Icelandic side Vikingur before moving to Sweden with Djurgarden.
The 28-year-old joined Plymouth Argyle in 2009 and made 72 appearances for the Pilgrims, scoring three times.
Arnason is an international team-mate of Jonsson, who has been given a two-week break following his appearance at the under-21 European Championship finals.
