Notts County have agreed a two-year deal for Northern Ireland international midfielder Jeff Hughes.

Hughes, who left Bristol Rovers at the end of the season, will officially become a Notts player on 1 July, subject to a medical.

The left-sided player, 26, will be boss Martin Allen's sixth summer signing.

Hughes told BBC Radio Nottingham: "I only had to speak to Martin once. It was sorted but took longer than it should have because of holidays etc."

Hughes, who has also played for Lincoln, Crystal Palace and Peterborough, added: "I'm sure Martin will set his own goals on the way we're playing and what he expects of us.

"Hopefully we can live up to those expectations and push for promotion."
