Dale Jennings' possible move to Bayern Munich could boost the Tranmere squad in the long term, according to Rovers captain John Welsh.
Jennings, 18, is currently in talks about a move to the German giants.
"I think the club are going to get the best move for itself money-wise," Welsh told BBC Radio Merseyside.
"If Dale goes, the manager may bring in two players that are at a similar level to Dale and it could work out even better for the club."
Welsh continued: "If that comes off, then that's a brilliant move all-round."
Tranmere ended the 2010/11 season in 17th position, nine points clear of the relegation zone, and Welsh has greater ambitions for the new campaign.
"We're going to improve on the last two years," said the 27-year-old. "So if we're touching the play-offs, then that would be brilliant."
