Lesotho teenager makes history
Lesotho teenager Montoeli Sonopo has joined Spanish side Atletico Madrid.
He becomes the first player from the tiny African kingdom to join a European team.
"We are busy patching up the finer details of his move but we have his contract already, so it is a done deal," Lioli FC president Lebohang Thotanyana said.
The 17-year-old winger is awaiting his visa so he can fly to Madrid to join his new club.
But he is not expected to join the senior team straight away.
"He could not sign a professional contract because of his age. He will definitely join the Atletico reserve side first," Thotanyana added.
Sonopo was spotted by Atletico scouts during Lesotho's qualifying campaign for the under-20 African Youth Championship.
"Our development programmes are bearing fruit. Montoeli was identified during one of our development programmes and look where he is right now!" Thotanyana said.
