Rangers forward Kyle Lafferty to have surgery on hernia

Rangers foward Kyle Lafferty
Lafferty scored 15 goals for Rangers last season

Rangers forward Kyle Lafferty will have surgery on his hernia problem and will be out of action until late August.

Lafferty left the recent pre-season tour of Germany early to have his injury assessed by a specialist and will now have an operation.

The 23-year-old scored 15 goals for Rangers last season.

Manager Ally McCoist told the Rangers website: "He will have surgery next Tuesday down south and we hope everything goes well."

Meanwhile, McCoist has been boosted by the news that Madjid Bougherra, Maurice Edu and Sasa Papac will be fit in time for Saturday's Scottish Premier League opener against Hearts.

Edu is back from Gold Cup duty with the United States and he and Bougherra, who has been struggling with a hamstring problem, may feature in Tuesday's friendly with Blackpool.

Papac will not travel to Bloomfield Road as he has a tight hamstring but the defender is expected to recover in time for the weekend.
