Striker Ben Williamson scored on his debut for Port Vale as Micky Adams' side defeated Stafford Rangers 6-2 in a pre-season friendly at Marston Road.

Vale went behind to a Liam Shotton strike early in the game, but fought back with first-half goals from John McCombe, Rob Taylor and Williamson.

Substitutes Justin Richards, Anthony Griffith and Doug Loft completed the rout for the League Two side.

Vale are back in action on Sunday when they visit Newcastle Town.

Midfielder Griffith told BBC Radio Stoke: "I was excited for the game because I love football and I had a couple of months here on loan at Stafford.

"We won the game and it was pleasing to put a smile on the manager's face because he enjoys winning."

Defender Gareth Owen, plus new signings Ryan Burge and Clayton McDonald, did not feature because of slight injury problems.
