Northampton Town have released striker Billy McKay by mutual consent.
The 22-year-old has scored 16 goals in 84 games for the Cobblers since joining from Leicester two years ago.
Sixfields boss Gary Johnson hinted the frontman, who suffered a dislocated elbow last season, had already found himself a new club.
"We gave him permission to talk to other clubs and said we would not stand in his way if he got himself fixed up," he told the club website.
"He has a terrific opportunity lined up and I wish him every success.
"I only really saw him briefly in matches, most of his time under my management was spent doing rehab work.
"We offered him terms at the end of last season, but I was honest with Billy, and said that after a successful summer of recruitment he was unlikely to be in my first choice 11 this season."
