Leicester boss Sven-Goran Eriksson admits he is still in the dark about Owen Hargreaves' plans after holding talks with the midfielder's agent.

Hargreaves, 30, is a free agent after being released by Manchester United and Eriksson is interested in signing him.

But he told BBC Sport: "I've spoken to the agent now. It depends totally on Owen, the ball is in his court.

"I don't even know if he is fit or if he wants to play. If he wants to speak to us, we are more than willing."

The former England manager added: "I have always said if he's fit, Owen Hargreaves is a great player."

West Brom have also held talks with Hargreaves' agent as the Canada-born midfielder looks to find a new club.

Hargreaves has attempted to prove his fitness to prospective clubs by posting videos on YouTubeexternal-link after he played only 39 games during his four years at United following a £17m move from Bayern Munich.

When fit, he was a regular in Eriksson's England squads and holds 42 international caps.

Eriksson's Leicester have been the big spenders in the Championship this summer. The Swede has spent well in excess of £10m, signing Reading skipper Matt Mills for a reported £5m, as well as Kasper Schmeichel, Lee Peltier, Sean St Ledger, Neil Danns, David Nugent and the latest acquisition, Liverpool defender Paul Konchesky.
