Nigel Clough calm about Jason Shackell calf injury

Shackell was a key player for Barnsley last season

Derby County manager Nigel Clough says Jason Shackell's calf injury is not serious and he expects the defender to be fit for the start of the season.

Summer signing Shackell will miss Saturday's friendly with Burton Albion.

But Clough, who is without Shaun Barker for the season opener with Birmingham, told BBC Radio Derby: "He has just strained a calf. It's precautionary.

"He won't feature in the first two or three games. But he certainly should be fit for the start of the season."

But Barker will not be available despite successful knee surgery in April.

It was hoped he would be fit but he has not yet fully recovered and Clough has ruled him out of the opening game against the Blues at Pride Park on 6 August.
