Peter Houston rued the missing of two gilt-edged chances but still believes Dundee United can strike Europa League gold against Slask Wroclaw.
United are 1-0 down to the Poles after the first leg of the second qualifying round tie in Oporowska Stadium.
"I think there are chances there for us to score goals next week," the United manager told BBC Scotland.
"The best two chances came in the first half and both for Dundee United, one-on-one with the goalkeeper."
Johnny Russell and David Goodwillie were both clean through during the second qualifying-round tie in Poland but could not score.
"Johnny Russell had done all the hard work," said Houston. "The only thing he has not done is hit the ball properly.
"If he had, we were 1-0 up and we should have been.
"David Goodwillie is one-one-one with the goalkeeper and just did the wrong thing.
"The goalkeeper has gone down quite early and, if he had dinked it, he would have scored.
"But these boys normally score for us, so I'm not going to be too critical."
Johan Voskamp made United pay when he netted the only goal in the 75th minute after he got his head to a Waldemar Sobota drive.
"I felt we restricted them to long-range shots and, as far as the goal was concerned, they got the break of a couple of balls on the edge of the box and the guy actually sclaffed the cross - and Voskamp has scored," said Houston.
"We restricted a good side, because I thought they were good in possession.
"But I thought they were running out of ideas. They were shooting from 35 yards and they weren't even hitting the target.
"I thought the team worked magnificently hard in really hot conditions.
"They are very, very tired and I couldn't ask for any more - just one of those two chances to go in."
The Scotland assistant manager believes his side can overturn the deficit at Tannadice next Thursday, when Jon Daly could return to his favoured position up front should Garry Kenneth recover from injury.
"We were playing a centre-forward at centre-back as well and I thought Jon didn't look out of place," added Houston.
"Indeed, every time we got a free-kick and put Jonny up, Jonny won a header.
"We will need to be cautious and patient, but I think we have good quality in Johnny Russell and David Goodwillie and I thought Barry Douglas was excellent as well.
"And, who knows, Jon Daly might go up front."
