Scottish Premier League champions Rangers defeated Irish Premiership champions Linfield 4-1 in a pre-season friendly at Windsor Park.

Juan Manuel Ortiz slotted the ball into the bottom right hand corner for the opener in the 21st minute.

Michael Carvill fired into the top corner for the equaliser but after the break Steven Naismith shot home the third after good work by David Healy.

Nikica Jelavic tapped in from two yards and Kane Hemmings fired in the fourth.

Northern Ireland international goalkeeper Alan Blayney saved from Naismith early on and Ortiz shot over at the other end.

Sasa Papac provided the through ball for Ortiz to cut inside and break the deadlock.

Allan McGregor saved brilliantly from a Carvill header but the striker levelled in the 29th minute when the ball fell kindly for him.

A Steven Davis corner was cleared off the line and then Peter Thompson met a Carvill cross but his attempt narrowly missed the target.

Before half-time Robert Garrett shot inches wide of the post.

Rangers' substitute goalkeeper Neil Alexander saved from Billy Joe Burns and then Naismith had the ball in the net but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Brian McCaul's 18-yard shot was saved by Alexander and Davis' strike went straight into the arms of Blayney.

Naismith blasted over the bar but made amends by putting the Glasgow side in front on 67 minutes.

Healy dispossessed Chris Casement and provided a great ball for Naismith who found the net.

Gregg Wylde missed a chance with the goal gaping while Daryl Fordyce shot wide for the home side.

Kirk Broadfoot just failed to connect with a Wylde cross before Jelavic made it 3-1.

Kane Hemmings broke clear and shot into the corner for Rangers' fourth with three minutes remaining.

Rangers begin the defence of their championship title with a home game against Hearts next Saturday.
