Crewe Alex to take Tom Parkes and Loick Pires on trial
Leicester City defender Tom Parkes and Welling United's Loick Pires are set to join League Two side Crewe on trial, BBC Radio Stoke understands.
Parkes, 19, is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Foxes.
He does have some Football League experience however, following two loan spells at Burton and another at Yeovil.
Pires, a former academy player at Stoke City, made 20 appearances in two years at Leyton Orient before dropping into non-league football last season.
The 21-year-old, who can play as a winger or striker, scored seven times in 34 appearances for the Blue Square Bet South side during the 2010/11 campaign.
Meanwhile, Crewe manager Dario Gradi will give Scottish goalkeeper Alan Martin another chance to impress in one of Crewe's two friendly matches against either Newcastle Town or Quorn on Tuesday evening.
Martin, formerly of Leeds United, played 45 minutes of the 2-1 victory over Wolves on Saturday.
Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke: "I'm happy with him if he's happy to stay. He's decent and in training he's a good shot-stopper.
"Sooner or later, we've got to make a decision for his benefit."
