Stevenage youngster Michael Thalassitis has been backed by his manager to become a success at the club.

The 18-year-old striker has impressed in Boro's pre-season victories over Hitchinexternal-link and Fulhamexternal-link this summer.

"He's a tremendous prospect, I'm really encouraged by his attitude, I like the way he's developing," boss Graham Westley told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"On the evidence of what we saw against Hitchin you can expect to see him making Football League appearances."

The forward, who was drafted into the burgeoning Stevenage youth system 12 months ago, .

Fellow frontman Chris Beardsley, nine years Thalassitis' senior, echoed his manager's support for the young prospect.

"He came in from the youth team and trained with us at the end of last season," said Beardsley.

"In all honesty, he's really impressed the first-team squad.

"We're happy if a young lad can come in and make a difference and an impact."
