Middlesbrough have completed the signing of France Under-21 midfielder Malaury Martin on a one-year deal.
The 22-year-old becomes manager Tony Mowbray's first summer signing after impressing during a short trial spell.
Martin, who was at Blackpool last season, has captained his country at every level from under-17 to under-21.
Mowbray told the club's official website: "He can pass, tackle and defend and he has a great shot on him, so we'll try to utilise his talents."
The central midfielder began his career at Monaco in 2005, where he made eight senior appearances.
In the 2008/09 season he was loaned to French Ligue 2 side Nimes Olympique, before signing for Blackpool last season.
He failed to make any first team appearances for the Seasiders because of injury and was released at the end of the last campaign.
