Southend United manager Paul Sturrock has said he will make a decision on whether to sign defender Ryan Leonard and forward Rohan Ricketts soon.
Ricketts, 28, and Leonard, 19, continued their trial spells at the League Two club in a pre-season tournament in Scotland last weekend.
Sturrock told BBC Essex: "It really all depends on the financial package that Rohan is involved in.
"And Ryan's had an excellent time here, I'm very keen to have a chat to him."
Ricketts, a former Arsenal and Tottenham player, is back in England after spells playing in Canada, Hungary, Moldova and Germany, but Sturrock admitted the financial side of the deal could be a stumbling block.
"That would be the deciding factor, there's no argument about the talent."
He added: "His fitness levels are not the standard they should be.
"But he brings a great talent, so it's something I'll think about over the next few days."
Sturrock also said he was keen to sign former Plymouth defender Leonard, adding: "He brings us a bit of cover and competition for places."
Southend played two matches in the pre-season tournament at East Fife last weekend.
They lost a semi-final 2-0 to Dundee, before drawing 0-0 with Raith Rovers in the third-placed play-off.
