Les Parry targets play-off chance for Tranmere Rovers

Tranmere manager Les Parry believes his team should be within touching distance of the play-offs come Easter.

Rovers finished last season in 17th position in League One.

Parry told BBC Radio Merseyside: "I'll be disappointed if by Easter we're not at least still in the running for a play-off place.

"With the players we've got and if we can stay clear of injuries, I think it's a realistic target. I'm really optimistic ahead of this season."

Tranmere sold forward Dale Jennings to German club Bayern Munich last week, with promising defender Aaron Creswell leaving for Ipswich Town after his contract expired, although Rovers will receive a fee for the full-back.

Despite losing the two youngsters, Parry says his squad is much stronger and has the ingredients to challenge in a very competitive division.

"It's a massive statement, but another argument might be that last season we did particularly well against the better sides," said Parry.

"So the more good sides there are in the division, the better we're going to do. So you can look at it that way."
