Crewe Alexandra midfielder Luke Murphy has said he has fully recovered from the hernia operation that ruled him out of the final month of last season.
"It was disappointing but, as stupid as it sounds, it probably happened at a good time at the end of the season," Murphy told BBC Radio Stoke.
"I was happy to have the operation and then be raring to go for this season."
The 21-year-old, a product of Crewe's academy setup, is closing in on 100 senior appearances for the Alex.
He has occupied a position in the centre of midfield during pre-season, having been used on the right of midfield for much of the 2010/11 campaign.
"It seems to be going well and I can't really complain," Murphy continued.
"I'm playing where I'd like to be playing, which hasn't always been easy for me to do because Ashley Westwood and Lee Bell have been doing so well in midfield.
"In the games we've played, I think it has suited the team. Whether that will be the case when the proper games come round, we'll have to see."
"At the moment, all the lads are enjoying it and it's working for us."
Crewe start the League Two season away at Swindon on 6 August.
